So. Are we all being good little thumber-uppers? Take a chance. A few things I have learnt from SU's new similarity meter --. I share an interest in space exploration with Judefa, have the same taste in adult humor as the young 13andbored and share a passion for nude art with myself. Which is nonsense.

Dear Ellie

I enjoyed your latest personal disasters -- as we all enjoy one
another's disasters -- but what really got me was after those posts,
a casual weaving together of words that I never thought would
be in the same sentence . . .

"An interesting crochet blog."

And you've certainly covered the topic of underwear for Mormons very
well, though I wouldn't say it was a revealing piece.

Keep 'em coming; I love those stumblers who are candid enough
to just be whoever they are, and can laugh at themselves.

Where is Ben?

In Arizona for now.

Ben Willmore is living a life many of us dream
and talk about but never actuallly put into action.
After establishing himself as a photographer
and prominent teacher of Photoshop, he exchanged
his home and land for a truck and a life on the road.

His blog combines anecdotes from roadside
America and photography tips.

Personally, I think the HDR techniques he
focuses on are a fad and already done to death,
but they're probably his bread and butter.

HDR processing or not, he does have an eye for an
image in what look like ordinary surroundings.

And I admire and envy the lifestyle he's chosen.

The blog is just a light read about nothing in particular,
but Annie is a wordsmith and has a good sense of
humour as well, so that's good enough for me.

From her latest entries:

And then there's "Type" Pad

OURSELF: Why does every new high-rise on the East Side have to be named after a typeface? There's the Lucida, the Georgica...it's only a matter of time before they build the Helvetica.

JC: I hear there's already a Times building downtown.

(Everyone who understands typefaces laughs knowingly)

According to my quick Google search, Lucidas
are usually cars, but bah so what

I have to concede Yobaba (Alice) is 27 per cent

GRRRRRR I've been off air for a few hours tonight.

The connection went down while I was writing,
and in conversation with a friend.

I fulminated for a while, paced, had a cold shower . . . and
adapted, but worried: what if it NEVER comes back, anywhere.

Went to bed in a huff.

Then thought I'd get up and have another go.

Noticed I hadn't plugged the cables back in after the previous
attempt at disconnecting and reconnecting.

Happy ending.

Addicted?

I'd prefer to say keen. And certainly dependent.

Net users are no more addicted to their technology than generations
before them became to electricity or cars, and frankly I worry
more about people who are too apathetic to take up this
whole new connection with the world.

Yea all right, I'm addicted.

A couple of things occurred to me too, looking at this on Luce's pages . . .

-- I went through a very brief phase (like a week at the age of 10) in which I wanted to be a nun -- but concluded it wasn't on because I couldn't believe in Jesus, let alone fall in love with him (nuns "marry" Jesus)

-- I can't understand how people can live through a lifetime of marriage without realising it is all a game. At least it would be if I was "playing" it.

-- Don't get me started on the Church. I used to faint in services, not because it was an overwhelmingly emotional experience but because it was bewildering and baffling

-- And at Sunday school I thought "Nice story" but THAT IS ALL

Is this the real price?
Is this just fantasy?
Financial landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
And look at your buys and see.
I'm now a poor boy
High-yielding casualty
Because I bought it high, watched it blow, Rating high, value low,
Any way the Fed goes
Doesn't really matter to me,

Mama - just killed my fund
Quoted CDO's instead
Pulled the trigger, now it's dead
Mama - I had just begun
These CDO's have blown it all away

Tiny houses

How sensible, since we're living now in a world of
tiny gadgets (my new computer, eg, is about the
size of a book and weighs 2lb).

Some of the houses here are bigger than my own
current digs, but considering the readership is
mostly American it is a step in the right direction.
